Crossroads Arts Alliance is thrilled that School of Rock in Haymarket, Va. Is a Patron of our organization. We are looking forward to working with them to Inspire, Engage, Educate and Entertain the local community. We believe this partnership will help expand access to music and live performance offerings in the area.
School of Rock is the world’s premier performance-based music school! Mary Hitchcock is a co-owner of the school with her son Connor, who has been involved with music since he was 12 years old.
Mary and Scott raised Connor and his sister Katie in a supportive and flexible household. They encouraged them to pursue their passions, which led Connor to School of Rock
After Connor graduated from college, the family decided that his experiences influenced him so deeply, that they wanted the School of Rock to offer the same opportunities and experiences to their community in Haymarket!
Connor and his wife, Lydia, who occasionally teaches and helps at the school, are expecting their first child in July. That will make it a full house as the Hitchcocks already have three dogs — small, medium, and large sizes!
“When I am not working,” says Connor, “I spend most of my time with my family/friends, or I garden and try to bring as much life and color around me as possible!”
School of Rock musicians perform at live venues in the area such as public amphitheaters, local bars, clubs, venues and have even toured the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest, where the students got to share the same stages with big acts like Earth Wind and Fire and 38.
“It was special,” says Connor. “All of our shows are open to the public, and we try to bring not only music for our community but support for our local businesses and venues!”
“Some of the greatest lessons that a young musician can learn are only taught through actually applying their craft and performing live! We get to teach music by hosting shows throughout Northern Virginia and beyond!
